I created this fun video for my online style course: The Art of Dressing Well. I also thought it would be nice to share it with you, my lovely subscribers!
Whether you call them vision boards, mood boards, or collages, this creative activity is a powerful way to breathe life into your style dreams and aspirations.
If you’re anything like me, you may have collected an assortment of lovely bits and bobs, and tucked them away in a box, waiting for their moment to shine. Now is the perfect time to let these treasures come to life.
Here’s my how-to guide:
Start with a base for your board. A classic pin board works beautifully, but don’t overlook canvas art boards or even up-cycling an old wooden frame. Simply remove any existing artwork, take out the glass, and replace it with the piece of board or foam which is usually the backing piece to serve as your pinning surface. For an added touch, you might like to wrap it in a pretty fabric before securing it within the frame.
Next, immerse yourself in the vision for your dream style, inspired by the words you chose in lesson two. Gather everything that resonates with you - postcards, pieces of fabric, polaroids, photographs, magazine cut-outs, or handwritten notes filled that make you smile. Don’t forget to include pops of colour you wish to embrace this season. Even if your collection starts small, remember, you can always add to it over time.
Once your mood board is complete, step back and revel in your creation. Place it somewhere you’ll see it daily - perhaps inside your wardrobe door or a special spot in your room. The beauty of a physical mood board is its ability to provide daily inspiration and evolve with you, however, you could create a digital version on Pinterest or Canva and set it as your desktop or phone wallpaper. Or do both? What’s stopping you!
Weekend tidbits & other simple things I’m enjoying:
I currently have three different kinds of salt on my windowsill, and it’s such an indulgent, joyous way to add a special flourish to even the simplest of meals. Sourdough toast with cream cheese, slices of tomato and thick, flaky sea salt? yes please! Pictured is fine pink Himalayan salt, kelp-infused sea salt, and salt flakes.
Truly inspired by the bold use of colour, vintage-finds and natural textures in this little Stockholm apartment. As soon as I’m able, I’m going to find something (probably a wall) to paint in that happy, buttery-yellow colour.
Currently listening to this beautiful album. It’s not often that I enjoy every song on an album, but this one is something special.
All my meals seem to be in stackable form at the moment. Pancakes, fritters, waffles, you get the idea. I shared this recipe for broccoli, mint, and feta fritters a little while back, and it’s a tasty vegetarian meal that’s packed with flavour. You can also switch out the broccoli for cauliflower or peas, too.
Ps. Are you ready to spring-clean your wardrobe and feel more confident in your own unique style? I’m now offering my new course as a self-paced option including a one-year membership to The Art of Dressing Well community.
What people are saying:
“It was so so lovely to spend time really understanding and making a space beautiful that I struggle with. I was able to find what I was missing from my wardrobe to tie it all together from using the words I chose to describe my style. So helpful.”
“Thank you SO much for your course, the Art of Dressing Well. It's truly invigorated and inspired me in so many ways. I've also become much more discerning with what I purchase. Instead of going into a shop and buying whatever caught my eye (which half the time ended in me never wearing it or not knowing how to incorporate it into my current wardrobe) I can now see clearly if that piece will go with what I already own and love. It's been so joyful to put outfits together and be my own muse, guided by my personal style statement. It was just a 7 day course but I will take these tools with me for years to come.”
“Thank you Eleanor, I have thoroughly enjoyed this week. My wardrobe and drawers are less clogged, I have a much better understanding of what style and colours of clothing I like and am confident wearing. I know that any new purchases will be more considered and actually be worn and enjoyed. Life changing!”
