My kids and I trialed this recipe a few times, as most of the traditional recipes (aka cioccolata calda) on the internet were surprisingly too rich for us. I wanted a deeply indulgent and velvety hot chocolate, but one that didn’t make me feel sick afterwards. This happy ratio of ingredients suits my desires perfectly.
Ingredients:
1 cup milk of your choice + 2 tbsp
2 tsp cornflour
60g good quality dark chocolate, roughly chopped
1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tsp sugar or maple
Method:
In a small glass, whisk together the 2 tbsp milk and cornflour, then set aside.
Place the remaining milk in a small saucepan, and heat until just steaming. Add the dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar and and cornflour milk mixture, then whisk continuously until velvety and smooth. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Pour into your vessel of choice. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and some extra grated chocolate if you desire.
Serves 2 (in small tea cups).
